Vintage Honda lovers are in luck! The 2019 collection, recently announced by American Honda, includes two classic models reimagined for the 21st century. These classic pocket motorcycles are among some of the highest selling in the world, and the updated versions have people buzzing!
Fresh for 2019, Honda is re-releasing both the Monkey and Super Cub, two historically famous bikes that are both true to their originally stylings and updated for modern use.
The Monkey is essentially an updated version of the Honda Mini Trail 50 and Z50 of the 1960s, originally known as the Monkey in Japan. The 125cc mini bike is styled after its original trail riding counterpart, but is intended for street use. It weighs just 234 pounds, and features a 4-speed transmission with a standard clutch.
With a 1.5 gallon tank and a seat height of 30.6 inches, this little bike will be great for tooling around town. For additional comfort the seat is thick and ribbed, and the tall bend handlebars ensure an ergonomic ride. This retro style bike has modern features like a digital gauge, electronic start, and the option to add ABS.
The other 2019 release, the Super Cub C125 ABS, is the latest edition of the most produced, most purchased motor vehicle in the world. It has all of the classic stylings of the 70s models, with a host of features that bring it into the present!
For comfort, the Super Cub has 17-inch cast wheels for a smooth ride, the classic “step through” chassis that allows riders to get on and off the bike with ease, and twin rear shocks (just like the original) to help deal with any bumps on the road. It also features standard ABS, tubeless tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and seat height of just 30.7 inches – making it extremely easy to handle at stops.
On the tech side of things, the new Super Cub has some incredible surprises. Its four speed transmission is semi-automatic, meaning the riders perform the classic “toe shift,” but without needing to use a clutch! The bike uses Smart Key ignition, meaning that the key fob simply needs to be in the proximity of the bike to start. The seat opener is electric so riders won’t have to fumble with any latches, and the retro looking headlight is actually a high powered LED! Similarly, the classically styled center gauge is a digital speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, clock, high/low beam indicator, and features A/B trip meters – all in one!
Both of these motorcycles are perfect for short trips, pleasure riding, and even a daily commute! They’re great on gas, easy to operate, and super stylish. For people new to motorbikes, fans of the original Honda classics, and collectors of all things motorsports, the 2019 Monkey and Super Cub C125 ABS are fantastic options that won’t break the bank. Both will be available in the United States this year!
